im curious as to know what was the oldest that a person has been able to make it in the NHL, also if anyone knows a person to start playing hockey latest in life and still make it to the NHL.
like has anyone ever started playing hockey for the first time in their late teens and made it to the NHL

Not lately, this was common around the turn of the century.
As for the poster above me, Ed Jovanovski was the #1 pick in the midget draft....which means he was the best player in Canada in his EARLY teens.
The oldest a player has been to play his first game in the NHL is Lester Patrick, who played his first (and only) NHL game at the age of 44. However, Lester Patrick was a very prominent player in the NHA prior to the formation of the NHL.
Bob - I played in an exhibition game against Connie when he was with Spokane...pretty solid defenceman
Rucchin was 22 in his rookie season

Johnny Bower of th Maple Leafs was getting NHL money in the minor leagues, he started late. Lester Patrick won the Stanley Cup clinching game for his Rangers in goal. He was a Forward in the Pacific Coast Hockey League; the premier pro league, before the NHL.

Connie Madigan-38 years old? Modern era anyway.
Also, I think Steve Rucchin was older before lacing up and it shows in his strange skating style.

** We call him that too, but Crazy Legs is fitting. I feel like yelling yabba dabba doo when i see him skate..lol I shouldn't talk b/c I fall on my bum skating.
