If you are looking for destinations for A-Rod, the Cubs might make some sense. He has a long connection with Lou Piniella, the manager; they were together in Seattle. Chicago has plenty of money to spend. A-Rod could go back to shortstop, where he would resume an attempt to become the greatest ever at that position (if public relations weren't involved, Jeter would have been the one to go to third).
The Giants also make some sense -- they need a star with Bonds leaving and have money to spend. The Angels could fit in somewhere. Boston might be able to sign A-Rod if it can move Manny Ramirez; Mike Lowell and Curt Schilling are at the end of contracts so the team has some spare change potentially.
I don't think the Yankees can afford to let Rodriguez go; they have a new stadium to fill and need to sell tickets and suites.

His agent Scott Boros floated the rumer that the Cubs new ownership group would give A-Rod part ownership in the Cubs if he would sign with them. This is just a case of a players agent trying to force other teams to increase there offer to a free agent...A-Rod is staying with the Yankees.....

Its because the Cubs have a lot of money (or so it seems) and their original third baseman (Aramis Ramirez) has not been performing consistently. They think that they Yankees don't really need Arod and they believe that they could offer A-rod would want more. But remember that Arod has his best friend on the Yanks...so it probably won't happen.

Its a rumor, didnt the cubs just sign Aramis Ramirez to a new contract? there is no way they would just throw that away... unless A. Rod was going moving back to SS?? That payroll would be way high... I am still hopefull he will opt out and come to the dodgers (but thats just wishful thinking)... just my 2 cents...

It is being spread around by the press
ESPN-
Chicago Tribune & Sun-Times
I am pretty sure New York Magazine started it all
http://www.freep.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/20070924/SPORTS12/709240337/1050/SPORTS02
I personally do not think it will happen
(However the GIANTS - once they are rid of Bonds contract
anything is possible)
