I don't know what video the other people watched....but at the end it shows the father and child going fishing and then shows her fishing with them. She lives.
When I first heard the song years ago I thought she died too until I saw the video when it first came out on CMT.

I always thought she lived for the exact same reason you did. God had always let her live before, why not now. THe theme of the song says she should live. Also, in the video it shows a woman at the end and I always thought it was the wife
