He's currently in basic training.
Should I tell him the truth at the end of the letter, or send the truth out the next day.
I was think I'd send a box of sand too, but not too much. I might have it colored.

Even if you do tell him it is fake and for some stupid reason he finds it funny what will happen when you do really break-up with him? Will he still think it is just one of your jokes? I agree with everyone else this could backfire. He could either get so emotional that he gets hurt or he could go find find a new girl that night and let you think that all is well. Then come home and make a fool out of you.

That would be very cruel. I am sure the separation is hard on him. Basic training is a very difficult thing to do. Also, the men and women in the Armed Forces have a lot to deal with. He needs your support not some childish prank. I agree with everyone else, it can backfire.

It can very easily backfire because one of the things guys do when having left or been forced out of 1 relationship is to get another. You may find yourself being the one getting a Dear John letter once he recovers the shock.
That's a crappy thing you're even comtemplating. Ask yourself why you'd even consider doing it.

You are a sad woman. Why would you do that to a man in basic training? You don't think that is stressful enough? If my boyfriend sent me a letter like that, and then told me it was a joke later, I would say the jokes on him 'cause it's really over. I wouldn't want to be with a person that could be that heartless.

Send the sand to Iraq? I don't think so. They have already cornered the market. Send a Dear John to Iraq? same answer.

no i would not do that.. it could hurt his feeling really badly.. unless he has that type of prankster side in him.. like if he did that to you serval times.. but if he is the serious type i would not do it..the sand maybe ok .. i mean your sending him sand of his homeland.. right.. kinda something he dont think he is going to see for a while.. how about some nice pictures with it..just places you two like to go to gether and some family snap shots

I think that would be cruel and I wouldn't do it. How would you feel if he did it to you? I bet you'd be pissed. If you do decide to do it, tell the truth at the end of the letter, you never know what he may do if he thinks you dumped him in a letter.

What would you do if he took that as his opportunity to send a Dear Jane letter, for real???????....Pranks have a way of back-firing.....might be better to send him something more personal or intimate lol!

sure, then you'll feel like an ASSHOLE when he throws himself on a grenade before he reads that it's a prank. Geez, you're a real "treat" to have as a girlfriend. Actually, he'd probably be GLAD to get a REAL Dear John letter from you.
