Jolie, I appreciate and understand why you would pose such a question. However, as your first answer from Darth Vader demonstrates; Americans are not the brightest of individuals.
I would guess the majority of replies would focus on the chemicals the USA supplied to Saddam, and how the good old god fearing Americans had no idea he would use these chemicals to create chemical bombs to use against the Kurds.
These are the 'intelligent' people who are/were ignorant to the fact that America supplied arms as well as chemicals to Saddam's regime when he was waging war against Iran. This is the same self-righteous god fearing cuntry which happily supplied Saddam with the chemicals his regime used to create nerve gas which was used to kill thousands of Iranian soldiers.
You will recieve far more intelligent replies from a group of Congolese downland gorillas after explaining the finer attributes of Beethoven's 9th symphony or after you have explained the finer aesthetic attributes of the Mona Lisa.
The majority of Americans are totally blind to ANY wrongdoing by their government.
Hypocrisy and Irony are NOT in their lexicon. These words apply ONLY to non American governments.
As much as I admire your right to pose this question, I must advise you are wasting your breath.
I can hear a gorilla extolling the virtues of the 9th as the Symphony by which all following symphonies will be judged. Another is espousing the merits of Beethoven's greatness in combining choral to music.
I now await the voice of America to answer your legitimate question
God Bless America; Land of imbeciles and home of the moronic.

We didn't sell weapons to Saddam. What we sold had dual uses. Saddam chose to use what we sold for war. And If you take a good look at Saddam's arsenal, you see mainly Russian and French weapons. Things that could only be used for war.Iran is giving weapons to people that use them to kill innocent people in Iraq. Do you condone this?

You're the hypocrite because Iran isn't selling weapons to Iraq. Iran is a state sponsor of terrorism and is directly responsible for thousands of death in Iraq, including a large number of Americans. Your question isn't clever or insightful, it's just stupid.

Because there is a DIFFERENCE between what we do and what Iran does.
Selling Saddam WMDs in the 80s to fight Iran=GOOD.
Iran giving weapons to their Shiite breathren in Iraq=BAD.

If you were really honest with yourself and I do mean honest.
You know that answer to that and it isn't hypocrisy.
America was almost at state of war with Iran.
saddam was out to kill Iranians who were attacking saddam.
Now Iran is supply ( NOT SELLING) weapons that are killing Americans.
Do you now see the difference I hope.

Makes no sense! Based upon your question, can we also assume that since we give law abiding police officers handguns, if they ever decide to become corrupt and shoot an inncocent person/people, it is then our fault for giving them a gun in the first place in your opinion? Next!

Because Reagan illegally ran guns to Iran as well. All Americans aren't hypocrites. That is mainly the wide stance GOP.

I'm gonna admit, not the best U.S. policy.
Also gonna admit though that I prefer Islamic radicals over the commies any day, which is why we sold them the weapons.
Hence no communist threat anymore, no justification for questionable weapons deals.
