If you listen to the radio then it's more dead than anything...sugar coated, watered down, fake, disgusting...that's why Rock heads and other types of music listeners hate Rap. Hip-Hop is totally different from Rap, Hip-Hop is more than music it's a culture..Breakdancing, Beat Boxing, DJing, Graffing, Emceeing..it's a culture about a positive way of life and getting a message though..Poetical. Rap is what people hates because of how the artists on the radio are making it appeal. Rap is rather lyrical, it's about the way of life...violence, drugs, and sex...that's what people have lived through and experienced..so they rap about it, no need to discriminate on the genre now. Rock displays stuff just about as filthy. Don't be fooled by fake rap you hear on the radio talking about hoes, cash, and fancy dancy cars. Hip-Hop has never died, I listen to mainly underground artists and they have kept it alive. Mos Def, Talib Kweli, Jedi Mind Tricks, Chan..the list goes on.
Rap(underground) music portrays a way of life...should we really hate music that talks about how someone live? come on now...just because you grown up filthy rich and experienced only good things in life, doesn't me we hate music that speaks about something real for once.
Should we hate Rock music because of the sub genre known as Emo?...cutting and slitting of the wrist, doing all this self manipulating things and all this suicidal thinking?.....no.

It's not dead, 99.9% of the kids at my school listen to it. I wish it would go away though. Rock is starting to die out, sadly =(
