Sometimes, it's a cultural thing. Australians are a profane lot, so we swear as a regular part of our normal language. After all, they're just used to emphasise what's being said. Words cannot be offensive - they're just words. You have to decide to be offended by them. If the words themselves were offensive, then everyone who heard them would be offended - and this is clearly not the case.
But even we will regulate our speech a bit around family as a sign of high regard and respect - not because we have to, but because we want to. Don't think for a minute that they haven't heard these words before - and used them!
Don't get me wrong - cussing isn't necessary. But neither are most adjectives and adverbs. However, without them, our speech sounds flat and dead, so we use them to make our language more colourful - and to damn well emphasize what we're bloody saying! :-D

It really isn't necessary at all. But some people just talk that way. They were raised by people who curse and it just automatically got into their vocabulary because its what they heard growing up.
Now all these people out here cursing just because they think its cute are the ones I'm talking about when i say its unnecessary. They think its cute and its not. People say cuss but its really curse. When people use those words they're cursing whatever they're talking about and to curse something or someone usually means to wish the worst for them or to condemn them to hell.
Biblically, its a demon who controls your tongue especially when you can't control the cursing.

"Curse" words are just words, they have no more value than what the listener places on them. And any word had the ability to become one, and there are litterally hundreds of them. They may not the "dirty seven" but depending on who you say what to, they pack a punch.
As for not saying them at work and around family, that's mostly about being polite. Personally I think feel differently. I say what I want, however I need to say it. And if those are the only words that I have that express how I feel, then that's what I say. Love me or hate me, I always say what I mean, and mean what I say.

Cause it has become socially acceptable by the likes of Hollywood using it in films, and the use of it on prime time popular tv shows.

I don't know... why do we have words that you're not supposed to say anyway? what a weird thing. I dislike it when I see people cursing around kids, but if they are around people who arn't offended by it, i geuss theres really not a problem...or is there...

Swearing is cool, but I don't need to add it into my sentences to sound more cool or interesting. So I don't do it.
I yell at people who do it constantly because it gets so annoying. It may even be worse than "likelikelikelikelike".
