Since you divorced him before he died, you are a divorcee. Claiming to be a widow implies you were with him until his death and you weren't.

This is an interesting question - yes and no. If someone is married to the person for a long time, they have built a life with this person spanning over many years. In this case, they may feel like a widow/widower even if there had been a divorce. The divorce can happen for many reasons which would probably also have some bearing on this. What I am saying is that if you have a life with someone for a long time, you don't just shut the feelings off and when they die, you grieve much more than you would for a casual acquaintance. Some people might also refer to themselves as a widower when they meet you because they are ashamed that they are divorced for whatever reason. HOWEVER, for the purpose of an Internet profile, if you are divorced from the person and they die you are not a widower. You can feel like one, but the reality is that you are a divorcee. I think that he is a snake who found it easier to get dates with women who felt sorry for him. If you have an opportunity to post a warning to other women and plaster it all over the place, you would be a friend to many women to do so.

I agree with the previous answers. I was sort of in a special situation though. My ex and I figured out that our divorce was a mistake, caused by misunderstanding, but we were both already re-married. Therefore we (all of us) became friends. He died suddenly and unexpectedly last year. I recognize that she is the widow, and I merely lost a friend. Yet she did invite and allow me to share in the funeral planning. She sort of treated me like a co-widow. Nice of her.

divorced because you divorced him before he died. You would still have to be married to him to be considered a widow.

No, if she is divorced from him before his death she is not married to him that means she's divorced when he dies not his widow.

Through social security even if you were divorced at the time of his death you are technically his widow if you had children with him.

You were divorced, therefore not his wife anymore, so how could you be a widow? Divorced is my answer.

Divorced. You're only a widow if he dies and you're still married to him.

According to the Social Security, though this person has passed away, you were the last to be married to him/her. So it makes you a widow/widower!`````
This has happened to my mother, she was divorced from my step father, who passed away. When my mother signed up for S.S.I. she was given the benefits of a widow/divorce,
since she was the last one married to him.

You could potentially be eligible for social security, or your children could even though you are divorced. Contact social security to find out. There are rules about this. Otherwise, I would say you are divorced.
