Presuming she was killed and dumped in the sea, as the latest theory goes, would the corpse have washed up by now? I kow that they obviously would have tied something to the corpse (god, I feel horrible even thinking about it) but over time, could the rope they used unravel? or maybe over time the body would get washed to shore?

Any tidal experts on here tonight?

They say the sea reveals it's dead eventually....

I have experience of searching for bodies with the coastguard and eventually unless trapped inside a vessel bodies are washed up, but sometimes depending on tidal currents many miles from where they were deposited.

Many drownings in tidal waters result in the casualty sinking and being dragged up and down the seabed but experience has shown they are found near to where they are last seen.

Fish do feed off of human flesh so it is possible one day for bones or skeleton remains to be washed up, or depending on what was used to weight someone down and how it rots then a more intact but normally unrecognisable body may be washed up...

Some bodies have been deposited in lakes in scotland and cumbria wrapped in plastic and have been recovered quite intact, years after being placed there.

When a body is dumped in the water lets say with things to weight it down it will eventually rise from the gases and then sink again. Depending on the water (salt content) as that creates buoyancy, more salt, more you float. The temperature of the water, condition of the body and animals that may feed off the body can play a part in decomposition. It also depends on the currents for the body to come into shore because you also need to account for currents that occur under the water as well. As well if a body has clothing on it may and can get caught up on rocks that's why a lot of the time you see divers when trailing for a corpse as well as machines and water cadaver dogs. Hope this helped.

The words of Kate Mcann "They have taken her"why the plural THEY.Was the child abducted because the Mcanns were mixed up in a SINISTER plot with others. It is hoped so and then a fair chance this lovely child is still around.Maybe everyone is barking up the wrong tree on this investigation. The time has come to allow the Portugese Police space and to lay into the Mcanns and all of their friends.Should they all be innocent they have nothing to fear. The paperback will make good reading. The amount of questions on here regarding this case proves that people are genuinly concerned about this lovely child and her return live and well.Theories are always appreciated and keep it going that way we may turn up lucky if only for Madeline.

I think it wass supposed to be tied into a bag with rocks and thrown out. No - often people go missing at sea and their bodies never recovered. Tides will drag it out, by now it would just be a skeleton and break up.

Sorry - this subject is a bit gross......we are talking about a little girl here - its so sad.

After this length of time I don't think so. The sea creatures would have had their supper long ago. It's a sad thought that sends shivers down my spine. But of course I hope it never came to that.

God! It's a thought right enough! I hate to say it but a tiny wee body like hers would probably have been eaten by all the sea creatures by now.

Not if it was weighed down. Also the body would decompose and be eaten by sea animals fairly quickly. They seem to have done their research from Gerry's police book very well.

Good question, but I would think the body would have drifted out and was a dinner for the sea creatures.

If the body was dumped far enough from the tidal waters it's unlikely to ever be found.

Unlikely if there were a few boulders helping to hide the evidence....... But with a bit of luck some strong sea creature might disturb and reveal all........
