i have asked several questions on Iguanas in here, and the more answers I get and the more I read up on it, the more confused I am getting! OK, first of all how to you tell if the Iguana is a boy or girl? I just read that if it is a boy, it has spikes and if it is a girl, it doesnt, the previous owner (who gave it to me for free, cause he was too lazy to care for it) said it was a girl, and it is a green Iguana, it is very very large, but in my opionion it is not a green color, it is a greyish, redish color. and has two bluish circles on each side of it's mouth. Something else that I am confused about, is in a book I got it says lettce is good for it and also tofu and kale, and then I read that this is bad for them because it can do damage to them internaley. Also some one said it is ok, to put them in the bathtb, and to give them a warm shower, but could'nt they breath some of the water in, and get into there lungs? Also she is molting on her spikes on her back. Skin is peeling....

I'm going to give you a website that almost all reptile veterinarians recommend because the info provided is very accurate. http://anapsid.org/

At 6 months of age you can tell a male from a female by looking at the femoral pores--here's a pic: http://www.greenigsociety.org/malefemale.htm (also a great website)

Follow Melissa Kaplans Green Iguana Salad and you'll have an amazingly healthy Iggy! And they need a large pool of water to soak in daily--a kitty litter or storage box works well. Most Igs will defecate in their pools, so keeping it clean and disinfected is critically important. They are good swimmers by the way. Mist him daily as well--they need higher humidity, especially when shedding to prevent problems.
