The Champion's League is the top club competition.
The UEFA Cup is the "consolation" club competition.
The Super Cup is a one game event at the end of August (typically around the time of the draw for the Group phase of the Champion's League and the "First Round" of the UEFA Cup). It features the previous season's winners of the two competition. The Super Cup is a nice trophy but is otherwise an exhibition game.

Each national association gets a number of entries into the Champion's League and a number of entries into the UEFA Cup. How many into each competition (and where each team starts) depends upon how that association has done in the two competitions in previous seasons. The top teams in the league get into the Champion's League. The next set of teams (and the winners of the Domestic Cups) get into the UEFA Cup.

Other important facts about the two main competitions are that they have slightly different structures. The Champion's League has three qualifying rounds (some teams start in the first round, some in the second round, some in the third round, and some qualify automatically) followed by a 32-team group phase. The group phase has eight groups of four teams. Each group plays a home-and-away double round robin. The top two in each group advances to the "knockout rounds" (a round of sixteen, quarterfinals, and semifinals) where teams a paired up in a home-and-away two game match with the winner determined by total goals over the two games. The finals is a single-game neutral site match. The winner of the Champion's League also qualifies for the annual World Club Championship.

The UEFA Cup has two qualifying rounds. Like the Champion's League, the qualifying rounds are a home-and-away two game match with the winner determined by total goals. As with the Champion's League, some teams start in the first round, some in the second, and some in the UEFA Cup proper. In addition to the teams that qualify for the UEFA Cup through their domestic league, eleven teams qualify for the second qualifying round via the Intertoto Cup (a summertime "second chance" competition). In the First Round of the actual UEFA Cup, the sixteen teams eliminated in the Third Qualfiying Round of the Champion's League are added to the Competition. The First Round is another two game home-and-away match. The forty winners of the First Round advance to a group phase. Each of the eight groups is composed of five teams that play a single round robin (each team has two home games, two away games, and one bye week). The top three teams in each group advance to a knockout round where they are joined by the teams that finished third in the Champion's League's groups. The knockout system proceeds with a round of thirty-two, a round of sixteen, a quarterfinals and a semifinals; all played as a two-game home-and-away match. The finals are a single-game neutral site match.

If they don't qualify for European play through their domestic leagues, the winners of the Champion's League and UEFA Cup qualify for those two competitions, respectively.

In the Uefa Champions league, only the elite teams from each league is selected, for e.g. the top four teams in the whole league. The winner of the Champions league is then able to compete in the fifa world club championship, where the winner of the other continents champions leagues compete and the winner is crowned the best club in the world.
The Uefa cup is for teams that finish just under the top 3 or 4. In this case, around 5-8. The teams that are entered in the Champions league qualifiers, but do not qualify get to compete in the Uefa cup.
Both of these competitions are for the clubs in Europe. Other continents have there own champions leagues.
The super cup is a competition between the Uefa cup winners, and the Champions league winners

Champions league is more prestigiious where the top teams in the best leagues ( Serie A etc..) are grouped together in a tournament along with some kind of wild card teams the qualify by being the best in their league which might not be so good. These " wild card" teams play in 3 qualifying rounds to get into the group play of the tourney.

The UEFA Cup is with the lower level teams in those leagues previously mentioned.

The UEFA Super Cup is only one game with the winner of the champions league against the winner of the uefa cup

Both are club competitions for teams playing in Europe.

The Champions league used to be for that, Champions only. But it was expanded to include up to the top 4 clubs of some leagues, like England, Italy, Spain... It has clubs from all over Europe and any team can qualify if they finish high enough in their league and then qualify against other teams. It has since the early 90's become the greatest European competition for clubs.

The Uefa cup is open to the "lesser" club teams if you will. Basically if a team finishes 5th or 6th in England, for example they go to the Uefa cup which is a larger tournament than the Champions league.

The Supercup is the winner of the uefa cup and the Champions league. This year it was AC Milan who won the Champions league versus Sevilla who won the Uefa cup.

They are both great, you can't really compare them. There are more quality teams in the champions league because there is more chemistry between the players obviously due to the fact that they play and train together all year. The world cup is special though because it only happens once every 4 years. It's just a matter of preference.
