I'm wanting to buy two 512mb sticks of DDR 400 SDRAM (PC3200) and I just want to know what brands to avoid and what brands to consider, preferably under $50 per stick but not el cheapos.

For instance, I've heard mixed things (but mostly good) about Kingston and that cheap Corsair RAM dies after a few months.

Also, my system doesn't support dual channel memory.

I did a scan on crucial.com that said my system required memory to be installed in pairs but also that dual channel wasn't supported :/ It's a Dell Dimension 4600, whatever mobo came with that model.

If it doesnt suppor duel channle it doesnt really matter. The only reason to get High end coirsair or Kingston is to overclock it and to ensure that they are matched pairs for optimal Dual Channel perrformance.

The link is the ram you need for 51 bucks for 2x512mb For a 100 you can get 2 gigs.

Crucial, OCZ, Patriot, Corsair, Kingston, Mushkin, etc are good brands, but for gaming, get the one that has low latency (CL2 or 2.5) and runs on tight timings.
I've had no problems whatsoever with my Kingston or Corsair PC3200. My old Corsair XMS (CL2.5) is still in good condition after some years of overclocking adventure in socket A and S-754 platforms.

attempt updating your video drivers first, even however that may not look significant to the concern. As for the reminiscence, examine to be certain you equipment registers it, i.e. equipment residences in homestead windows or the cmos setup reveal, with the aid of pressing DELETE or perhaps in the adventure that your pc tells you to do it. reminiscence generally doesnt shrink to rubble the pc like that, generally its not the suited RAM, yet for sure it it as you reported, one factor you ought to examine is to work out in the adventure that your pc takes 2 categories of RAM, wherein case some have different slots to insrt them into, yet not constantly. and if it does, then attempt swapping them into different slots, and a powerful thank you to tell is in the adventure that your motherboard has to different coloured slots for RAM. desire that could have been some help. -Daryn

If it takes 2 sticks then it is dual channel.
Avoid PNY ram its genneric will last a little over a year.
Top rams would be micron, hynix, infinion ect.

memory to be installed in pairs, pairs =2 dual channel =2
I really dont care what crucial says.
And im guessing they also want you to upgrade to a speed that wont do you any good.
