I'm Italian so I can't put the songs of my Italian childhood here because nobody would know them.
Usually the songs that I remember most are the funny ones.
Anyway when I was a child Perry Como who was an American Italian came to Italy for some television shows after having launched the song "Magic Moments". It became an instant hit in Italy and I remember that I liked it very much and kept singing it even if at the time I didn't understand a word of English. This is the only song in English of that time that I can think of
I have just surfed the internet to listen to it and read that some Americans found it irritating because they associated it with some sort of television commercials for chocolates though.

There are a couple which spring to mind. I would be aged 9 I think, I'm a Believer by The Monkees (the very first boy band, lol:-D) and the other one is by Scott McKenzie San Fransisco. Coo, what memories they bring back I have an elder sister who used to play them over and over, and over, and over again!

Electric Avenue by Eddie Grant. I think I was about 5 when that song came out and I used to make up dances to it. Really anything from the early 80's reminds me of growing up.

She loves you by the Beatles
I remember dancing around to it on the radio,
and standing on a green telephone cable box to get a better view of the big black limosine that went past our street, in Liverpool.
The street was full of people screaming and singing Beatle songs.
The Beatles were in the car as they went to collect their freedom of the city award, or something like that.
At 4 or 5 it was so exciting

"A Horse With No Name" by America. I was about 3 when that was a hit and it's the first "grown up" song to make any real impression on me. I still like it.

"jimmy mack," by martha and the vanellas. maybe "blue moon," by the marcells. or "fools rush in," by elvis. no, it was "tutti frutti," by little richard. i dunno. now i like everything leon redbone has recorded, which i discovered is a huge body of work. he is a real creative genuis and very subtle in so many ways. childhood, hell my memory is too foggy, must be the meds. i was pretty opened minded about music then, only opera put me off. loved music in the movies more than anything else.
