It seems to me that the deepest root of most of the world's problems is ignorance. So I would do what I could to improve the education of mankind--and that's a whole lot more than just throwing money at it.
I also disagree with the first poster. Money isn't the problem. However, untold trillions have been squandered and billions kept in poverty because of ignorant and dogma-based economics programs. More economic education would help keep politicians from instituting the same old economic policies that we KNOW don't work.
Much of the strife and violence in the world is caused by irrational people who are thinking with their hearts instead of their heads. More education in rational thinking would help people keep cooler heads and not be so quick to resort to the use of force.
Scientists are fighting a constant battle against the forces of superstition, pseudoscience, creationism, and general anti-science hostility. Those they're fighting against typically have very little science education themselves, and see science more as a competing belief system instead of what it really is, a methodology for discovering and verifying knowledge. More and better science education could remedy this.
Many people the world over are quite unnecessarily oppressed by irrational political laws that stifle their freedoms and actually make society poorer and more crime-prone. If the general populace could be educated in WHY freedom is so good for society (and it's not just because it feels good), they would be less tolerant of politicians who feel the need to restrict our freedoms in the name of some cause like better gov't surveillance.
Education, education, education. Not dogmas or belief systems, but facts and real THINKING. _That_ would make the world's future better!

Get rid of rampant delusions that cause so much harm.
1) Don't rely on external powers. You must do it for yourself.
2) Don't explain things on the basis of external judgment. This saps your determination.
3) Understand that the universe does not operate in a binary fashion just because your planet has a day-night cycle.
4) Understand that all of life is inexorably interconnected and don't be fooled by the visual input that creates the false impression of separateness.
5) Get rid of those who seek to ensnare you in guilt and unhappiness. They are serving their own purposes, not your life.
6) Understand that all of life, including the tiniest particle of dust, is continually changing. Do not get attached to circumstances.
7) Do not complain if you don't always find the going easy. Enjoy what there is to enjoy, and suffer what there is to suffer and never forget that your beliefs determine your environment.

If you mean the planet, I would get rid of all humans. Humans after all have many ways of destroying each other and may be the reason for the early on-set of the next global climate change.
If you mean civilization, I would get rid of modern technology. Humans are much better off with out having too much time to think about the future of the world.

I would say that first of all we need Peace, because without Peace there will always be Wars.Unity, among some of the Nations, I say some because I do not think that we can count with Mexico, or Venezuela, Those two nations are very Corrupted, and they only want to get whatever they can from the United States. I am not going to go into details because I won't be able to finish. Love, among the people, because we have grown, cold and self-centered, where has Love thy neighbor as thyself gone? I am talking about the 60's when you would sleep during the night with the Door open, and no fear of someone getting in to Rob, you or Kill you. I could go on and on, but I will stop here, I know you know what I mean.

By answering my question about reducing the influence of money in our life. I mean it. Money and power make us kill our world...
And... Learn to control our desires (all of them!!!!)? Our desires make us humans. I have the desire to love and be loved, to cry, to have fun etc. Love (and not beauty) will save the world. If you give without expecting something back. The economical-type of giving and taking relationships in every aspect of our lives are the problems.
