A lousy movie, if you believe it or not.
Having had the good fortune of watching thousands of movies and tens of thousands of trailers I know that usually the better the trailer the worse worse the movie.
It is a sign that the studio thinks that the movie will not appeal to all markets when they release five or six versions of the same trailer to entice the romantics, the action freaks, the soundtrack lovers, the artist followers, the story lovers, the horror junkies, and so on.
They made fun of this fact in the movie "Scrooged" with Bill Murray when he remade the "A Christmas Carol" trailer to scare the audience into believing if they missed the movie they would die. Watch the movie and you will see what I mean.
There was another movie, "The Last American Movie", so bad that the trailer was not for the movie but for the soundtrack to the movie. Amazingly people went to the movie just to hear that soundtrack which was filled with Lionel Ritchie music who was real popular at the time. The movie stunk, hurting the career of the up and coming Diane Franklin who went from the successful movie "Better Off Dead" with John Cusack to making a thoroughly forgettable flick, "Second Time Lucky", and then the warped sequel, "Amityville Horror 2", both of which she was hired for because of the lousy "Last American Virgin", in which she bares all. It just goes to show you that some movies can ruin your career. Her next memorable role is as the dark haired English babe in "Bill and Teds Excellent Adventure." Sad seeing how god she was in "Better Off Dead".
Back to your question, it depends on which audience the trailer is taylored to. Horror and Action has to have a loud soundtrack and rapid cutaways to make the person feel they are missing something. Romance needs a lot of in and out close ups mixed with scenic shots in a seemless tapestry of love that says this is a feel good movie. Comedies are usually face recognition driven. If you like the comedian then the movie is for you. Show Christopher Walken's face in "Balls of Fire" and boom you have hit on a big audience. Then there is Mister Microphone who gives story driven movies that feeling of authenticity.
I think shorter is better but not so short that the audience has no clue what the movie is about, and never break the trailler too early. It actually works against you to have your trailer out too long. I am thinking 45 seconds or so and you make sure to end with the name and the date. It really irritates audiences if they have to guess.

A good movie trailer shows you enough of the movie that you get the general plot and enough action or romance that it makes it look like it's worth seeing and really good music

2. Cool scenes
3. Cool background music
4. A cliff hanger at the end

The purpose of a movie trailer is to hook the viewer in to watch the movie. Therefore, it needs to apeal to a wide audience. Make sure to show off the romantic, action, and comedic elements of the movie. Overall, the trailer must make all other movies in it's genre pale in comparison.

The movie showing that makes you want to see it. Like lets say that a comedy movie was coming out, if it shows the funny stuff in the movie you would want a laugh and want to watch the full length.

Shots from the best scenes, a beautiful lead cast, funny tidbits to watch out for, a good narrating voice, the background sound playing tunes you usual hear at beach parties, and, lastly, the COMING SOON written under the movie name!

A GOOD MOVIE TRAILER GIVES AN INSIGHT INTO STORY OF MOVIE WITHOUT GIVING PLOT AWAY BUT LETTING PUBLIC KNOW THE LINE THE FILM FOLLOWS. ITS IMPORTANT TO TELL WHAT KIND OF FILM IT IS. COMEDY, THRILLER , CHICK FLICK ETC.
