Today I deposited a check at the ATM and wrote my name on the back of it (next to the amount) but I did not write my account #. Was I supposed to? Also, I put some cash in the envelope too alongside the check. Will they accept that sum (both are in the same envelope)? I used my debit/ATM card and received a receipt. Thanks!

Your suppose to put your account # on the deposit slip that you put in the envelope with the cash.

You told the ATM which account you wanted to put the money in. The ATM marked the envelope to match it with the transaction data. If everything goes the way it is supposed to, you don't need the account number of the check. On the other hand, if anything goes wrong in processing, your account number on the check increases the chance the bank will credit the check properly.

To the answer above mine: The receipt is not worth the paper it is printed on. It shows what you told the ATM. If the envelope does not contain what you told the ATM, the contents of the envelope ARE correct.

I have never written my account # when I deposit at the ATM. Check and cash both should not be a problem. Just hang on to the reciept.

as long as you got a receipt, you are ok. becasue they know what account you submitted it to. they do like to have your acct number on there, so put it next time, but you won't get penalized or anything. i've done it before...don't worry =)

I always do, but only b/c you never know if the person taking the checks out might accidently mix them up.

But you don't NEED to.

Better safe than sorry !

The money doesn't get routed to your account unless your account number is on it.
