I think the legalization of marijuana is going to be a State issue, not a Federal one. I live in Michigan and we used to have something in Ann Arbor called the "Hash Bash", people openly smoked pot and as long as you had under an oz. on your person, you received only a misdemeanor ticket, basically nothing more serious than a parking fine. In Alaska it was legal to grow your own, and I believe they have medical pot in CA. So, I think it will be a slow process, and the President will have little to do with the progress.

Many many people are casualties of the drug war and resent newbies like you coming around and belatedly saying that you like weed. At least I for one
Even if the issue were on the slate at this late in the game, (which it isn't), some ex cons would probably come forward and say they actually don't want it, just to spite you, just to make you go through exactly what they went through, and it isn't pretty.
Carter was good for more than trying to decriminalize weed, in fact, that issue was more an afterthought that slipped by before we even knew it was on the table.
I'm glad he was our president. Even illegal, the '70's were nice for there being less law enforcement around snooping, eg. less horrible abuses.
My guess is the closest you'll ever come this election year to any Democrat trying to do it, might be Obama.
The Clintons,.... if Bill couldn't do it, why would she? Moreover, I read some statistic that even more non-violent drug offenders were incarcerated under Clinton, than Nixon or Ford or Carter or Reagan or Bush combined.
Take the Green route, because they have always been very adamant about what they want, and never hide it.

Democrats in general have NOT been known to be against marijuana prohibition, so I doubt Hillary will make moves in that direction.
Legalizing marijuana is more of a libertarian idea that has advocates in both major parties but it had never been the official position of either party.
FYI President Bush was a known alcoholic and drug abuser.

Do not delude yourself or anyone else. While I admire Bill Clinton, the simple fact is he oversaw one of the largest expansions of the War on Drugs in history. Each year of his presidency, more people than any prior year in U.S. history were arrested for simple possession. Bill did not decriminalize or legalize marijuana; he increased both the persecution and the prosecution of cannabis consumers. Hillary, as another corporate democrat, is unlikely to do anything different. If you are intent on legalization, then throw your support to candidates like Dennis Kucinich and/or Bill Richardson.

I wish she would but probably wont. Its too much of a political hot potato with very little to gain. The restriction on doctors prescribing it may be relaxed.
Also George Bush smoked more pot and did more cocaine than Bill Clinton and Al Gore combined.
I don't smoke pot. Not on moral grounds but I just never really liked pot. So if its legalized it doesnt affect me directly. But we dont need to be creating a market for criminals and making gangsters rich. The fact is that the biggest supporters of strong laws against marijuana is the prison guards union because it provides more jobs for them.

Well lets see....
1. She wants the votes of anybody she can get so yes, she'll want convicted felons to vote for her...yea, she'll try to legalize weed.
2. If she's elected, we'll all need access to weed just to live through her administration tenure.
3. It's probably not a big issue to her since Bill used it.
But for a serious note, if it's legal then would that cut out drug running? Lets also not forget the seriously ill who could use it to ease their dying pain.
You could go to her website and e-mail this question. I'm sure one of her aides would answer you.

She would have the power to do that? When did Congress lose all its power to a dictator? I now G.W. Bush wants to be a dictator and those who support him seem to think the president should have all that kind of power but so far they don't. So I rather doubt Hillary Clinton will legalize marijuana unless it is passed by Congress. That would be doubtful and then she might actually veto it.

I don't want marijuana to be legalized, but wouldn't care too much even if it is. I don't smoke and never will and only hope that IF it is legalized, that it has some pretty hefty restrictions on it.
What should be legalized fully if hemp. It is not "basically" marijuana, and is a raw material that can be grown en masse cheaply and used for all sorts of products.

It would have to take a grass-roots effort and a lot of public pressure for Hillary to even think about legalizing marijuana; I don't think that she would take a political risk like that, even though I think she should.

Never, both parties of politicians go by the "do as we say, not as we do" ideology, the guberment makes way too much money off of marijuana being illegal and their phoney war on drugs to ever legalize it.
