check the serpentine belt for tightness and if you know your battery isn't right replace it with a new one also make sure your battery cables are good and clean and tight.

David, Every breathing soul who lives in a house and owns a car needs an inexpensive multi-tester. Sears has them from $19.00 - $250.00. Guess what? The $19.00 one will tell you exactly what you need to know concerning the health of your alternator. Set the meter for 20 volts and place the red lead to the positive terminal of the battery. Run the black one to the negative terminal. Start the car and read the voltage on the meter. If your alternator is charging normally it should read 13.5 - 14.0 volts.

The battery if fully charged should read ( volt meter) 12.7 - 12.8 volts if it's fully charged.

Check your connectors, belt and even it could be a faulty one. Most of the times, that is not the case but is possible. Maybe there is some on your wiring that made fail the old one and now the newer too.

Battery is really bad (Replace ASAP), drive belt sounds like it's loose, check wires at Alt. to make sure their tight. Sounds like, the battery is so weak, that the engine is trying to run on Alt. power at times but if it's not getting enough out of the Alt. it dies.
