zach, you've listed bands from the past. What about the importance of rock in recent views? Will it make an impact on not only music, but culture like it did decades ago? And what about in the future?

Sadly, rock doesn't have the influence it once did back in the 60s & 70s. The *world* was into rock music back then & it was the common ground for youth.

Not so in 2007.

Today w/ the advent of the Internet, hip hop, Am. Idol, video iPods, we're all kinda making our own 'entertainment'. Even votng for our new pop Idols on tv. That's twisted, IMO.

Rock is alive & will always be around, but it remains to be seen if it'll ever reclaim it's former glory.

As for myself, I turn to indie rock recently. There's So much great, exciting new rock being made under the radar!

In the past, it was very important. The 60's was definded by the youth culture which was heavliy influenced by the music. Now? I have no idea, for those who love it, it's very important, but rock (because of a lack of good bands on the mainstream front) probably has less of an impact now. And the future.... less just hope good rock will be popular again.

I am an old rocker from the 50's and 60's. It was very important then and still is. It's not just rock music though. All music is important and serves us in so many ways. Music has no color, religion, or other boundaries. It reaches everyone in some way or another. I the 60's you had love themed music in rock n roll as well as protest songs about war and hate. As a side note Rock and Roll was derived from older blues and jazz forms. Most of the rock greats credit the old artists of Jazz and blues as influential to their own music. To answer your question though I have to say ALL MUSIC IS IMPORTANT.

Was: the gasoline of rebelion. back to muddy waters ,over to elvis, and into kiss and Led Zep.

Is: being popularized in the worse way. the boy bands have picked up insturments. Electro is bringing back the new wave type of sound but still isnt having the best affect on the scene. Alot of bands have gone to politics but even that has become a fad.

Will be: Getting alot worse before it gets better. Bands like Circa survive, Mastadon, And everytime i die are keeping the underground scene alive. Not that pop rock isnt good its just not original anymore.hip hop and Pop will take over and the trendy will leave rock alone. Leaving only the real, the original, and the true

How important? Let's see... It's a global music genre that was started in the US and has changed the face of culture not just here but everywhere. We have created icons of huge stature and trillions of dollars have been made, spent and invested. I guess that is important. I'm not saying that it is better or more important than any other genre like the others who didn't really understand your question... I am just saying that it will always be around.

Music of all forms will evolve as society evolves, from Gregorian chant to Johnny Rotten. Call it rock or anything else, music will reflect society's needs.

i dont think music in general now is very impacting. im not saying all music is bad i just think music had more affect in people and life style back then than it does now, not only are people being posers now but so are the artists. music just gets weaker in fuse by the years.

It's really important..Rock and Metal is invaluable and really deserves your attention... Rock'n roll exists for over 37 years and this music is more deep than most people think...
