Okay, so this friday is our homecoming football game. And, so all of the cheerleaders must learn a hip hop dance. So, today there was cheer practice.
So, me and the other girl in both volleyball and cheerleading we to cheer practice.
Because, the only thing in volleyball that was going to happen was practicing hitting. I'm a good hitter.
But, my coach and the varsity coach came storming into cheer practice and cursed and yelled at us that we needed to go to volleyball because it's more important. And, if we didn't we would be kicked off!!
So, my friend and I went to volleyball, but now we have no idea how to do the hip hop.
Did my coach have the right to threaten us like that?

It was an extreme reaction bu you guys should have asked if you guys could have missed that practice. They were thinking you didn't care enough about volleyball. It was almost an insult to them that you didn't feel it was important to go to practice. Next time explain the situation before you do something like that again.

Another way to ask is to consider if what you may have done to the coaches (both of them) fair. It is what being a member of a team is about. One has to consider one's contribution to the team as well as one's self.

I don't think the vollyball coach had any right to determine which of you activities was "more important." I'm sure the cheer squad wouln't have thought so. Still, YOU are the one that put the coach in a position to lose a member, because SHE thought cheer was more important.

Coach may not have been fair, but, neither were you.

The coach didn't have the right to curse and yell at you. As for kicking you off the team for not showing up to practice, he or she certainly has the right to do that. If there's a conflict between the two, you need to decide which you want to do more. Both are team-oriented activities and individuals can't just skip out on practice when something else seems more important to them. Your absence in this case might not have caused a problem this time, but if enough people didn't show up there wouldn't be enough for the "team" to even hold a practice.

In this case, both you and the coach are in the wrong.

Not necessarily, but your blowing off volleyball was not fair either. YOU should have taken the initiative and spoken with both coaches and come up with a compromise.

Was it your volleyball and cheer coaches or your v-ball and varsity v-ball coach? (that was a little unclear to me)

Hopefully you have solid teammates who will teach you the dance. I know when I was coaching cheer (a little youth squad, but a team none the less) I got really frustrated when people skipped practice with no warning. The coaches work their practice schedules based on everyone participating.

i understand how it seems unfair--we did this too! on the bus ride home! EXCEPT we only had to run 2 miles lol. i think it is fair! talk to your team maets about it! even though you all dont play together, you are still part of a team, and a team, is part of one unit. a unit is a whole. you gys are all one big whole! you know? you've got to listen to eachother, and keep eachother calm, and cool. hope it doesnt happen again-- and i hope i helped. (:
