My little sister loves a series of books by Lois Gladys Leppard about a girl named Mandie. They are Christian historical fiction for girls the same age as your friend. The first book in the series is "Mandie and the Secret Tunnel". I think your friend would like them!

Other books your friend might like are "The Chronicles of Narnia" by C.S. Lewis - it's a series, so you could buy the whole set or just the first few books. Or maybe "A Wrinkle in Time" by Madeline L'Engle. These are both great books by Christian authors, and I loved reading them when I was your age! (Truth be told, I still love reading them ;)

Other gift ideas would be a CD by her favorite musician or a friendship bracelet kit so that the two of you can make your own friendship bracelets!

HA HA HA HA. All of these christian people against Harry Potter. I think it's absolutely rediculous. One thing has NOTHING to do with the other. Guess what CS Lewis wrote Christian themed books that had witches and mythical creatures. Perhaps you have heard of them Chronicles of Narnia! To say that christians shouldn't read Harry Potter is ABSURD! Rowling shows the importance of compassion, honesty, dedication, and caring among other things. They are well written books, and they have a positive message. If someone doesn't like them reading wise that's one thing, but they should not be ignored simply because they revolve around "witchcraft".

You should really expand your horizons -- fantasy isn't evil. Some of the best fantasy authors were Christian. I think at 12 you should be able to tell the difference between fiction and reality.

But I wouldn't recommend Harry Potter for entirely different reasons; I just don't think they live up to the hype. I think you should get your friend Madeleine L'Engle's Time Quartet series. Yes, it's a fantasy, but it actually has a lot of very Christian themes if you take the time to read it carefully.

There's always the Narnia Series by CS Lewis. Or try some classics like Mary Poppins by PT Travers (There are 4 of them) or maybe The Wizard Of Oz (there are 28 OZ books)
One of my daughter's favorites when she was that age was "Glass Slippers Give You Blisters" we all read it and laughed out loud.
I would also suggest Harry Potter but she has probably read them.
