Other responses suggested charcoal; Yes, but regular charcoal doesn't work anywhere as well as activated carbon made to eliminate odors. For eliminating the odor without fragrances and irritants, here's an inexpensive and fragrance free product that is FANTASTIC that I use and know so many other people that use it for things just like this.!! It is a natural fragrance free carbon product called FRIDGE IT odor absorbers -little purple cube with an incredible activated carbon filter inside that is great and eliminates odors for a long time. It works so much better than all those sprays, gels and fragrances that just cover up smells and doesn't get rid of them. Just place one inside your leather bag and forget about it. No spills or chemicals or powder to worry about. Each only costs a couple of dollars. I use this product everywhere including car(smoke and pet smells), storage, closets, my fridge and and have friends that use it on cat litter box and also diaper pails - it's that good and I really recommend it. You can buy it in kitchen gadget sections in stores like linens and things. I also think camping world sells it. I also know you can buy direct easily within just a few days -customerservice@innofresh.com...
Definitely worth trying

In a handkerchief place either (only one thing not all together) breadcrumbs, bicarbonate of soda or ground coffee. make a knot and place inside the handbag. Leave for a few days and the smell should be gone.

Before attempting to do that I suggest that you turn the bag inside out and place somewhere dry and airy so it can get a good airing first. Your clothes lines will be a good place if it isn't raining.

Place laundry dryer sheets inside the bag each time you store leather bags. It makes them smell nice.
To get rid of smells, spray febreeze only to the inside the bag.

leather-based absorbs odors nicely. for this reason your dad's 30 3 hundred and sixty 5 days previous biker jacket nevertheless smells like Marlboros. There are leather-based remedies which you're able to make the main of before you ever placed on the product, however the main effective ones can substitute the feel of the leather-based to a minimum of a few thing that looks and feels greater like plastic, voiding the high quality, comfortable sense you commonly go alongside with leather-based. Your conundrum is the precise reason you notice human beings wearing socks with sandals. No, they don't do it by using fact they appreciate the form assertion, it merely helps them to pass longer before they'd desire to toss the shoes, and minimizes the cheesy sense of accrued physique soil (ewww!) in touch with their dermis. i'm going socks and sandals in the summertime, yet I stay in Florida, so that could be somewhat greater of an frequently going on ingredient. wearing snazzy clothier socks helps, as not something is frequently going on greater desirable than ostentation. Now go toss those funky flops.

Turn the bag inside out and clean it with saddle soap. Let it dry and repeat if necessary. Don't store leather bags enpty. Always at least fill with wadded paper.

Fill it with uncooked rice and about 5 charcoal brickettes (the kind you use in a BBQ). Put the whole thing in a plastic bag and then put that under your bed (or somewhere else away from sunlight). Give it 3 or 4 days and then give it a whiff.

Hmmmm not really sure but my first thought is to turn it inside out and maybe wipe it down with a damp cloth, possibly with a tiny bit of dish detergent and then really let it dry out while it's inside out.
