Just teach them the basics. How to access files on the hard drive, how to use the internet browser, how to copy and delete files, etc. Then move on to some more advanced stuff, like removing spyware, running anti-viruses. And give them a set of programs that you like, just enough to get them started. They can learn and grow from there. As they get more advanced, they can try linux, but a beginner is nowhere near ready for linux. Linux is a great OS, but takes a bit of getting used to

Good maintenance schedule for cleanup and defrag. Maintaining good anti-virus and anti-spyware. Net etiquette. Download, save and installation. Add/Remove programs. Just a few things.

U coul'd teach her all the keyboard shortcuts, especially the infamous "Ctrl+Alt+Del". It'll save her time.... You can also google "Computers for Dummies" To get a guidebook for new computer students.... teach her to use, word, powerpoint ... and how to use the internet... Then, ur done.... Have fun...

Teach them what I try to get my "students" to learn...the best way to learn about computers quickly is to be willing to "play" and "explore" and "make mistakes" and realize that no one's going to get on yer case when you do.

The thing that's USEFUL about computers is that, through the web, you can find out ANYTHING YOU WANT TO KNOW about anything you want to know. (In fact, much more than you'll have the patience to read.)
