Bush's veto powers are great and awesome, and he will put a stop to the Democrats waistful spending, thankfully.

What would you have them do? Sit on their hands and do nothing? You must be seriously out of touch with reality if you're still unaware that the Republicans spend more than the Democrats do. That's been going on since the Reagan administration in the early 80s.

[edit]
Kelly B, it takes a two-thirds majority to override a veto. With the Democrats holding only a 51% majority, that's not likely to happen unless a significant number of Republicans go along with the override. When they're facing the most divisive political climate I've ever seen, I don't think there's much chance of that.

I'll contend there's a whole lot more going on over in the Middle East than we're hearing about.

To some, from our standpoint, many people think they know what all is going on and in reality the troops aren't re-enlisting at 130% for no reason.

The 130% means many have chosen to re-enlist more than once.

Congress on the other hand may be speaking on behalf of what others feel is the majority here at home, however I can also easily comprehend that they're speaking on behalf of the soldiers working their tails off too.

The true measure of this war will not be reached or learned for possibly decades. History has dictated that since the conception of our country.

The majority of the soldiers want to finish the job. Who's speaking up for them? Maybe a dozen democrats crossing the line (as both parties have been doing) and as each month goes by, more and more differences seem to surface as a reason for staying the course.
Just like more reasons come up for pulling the troops.

When the majority of the troops feel their tasks are nearing completion... Then, and only then, will by support change to remove them from Iraq.

Happens all the time from both parties. It's just symbolic, and that way the democrats that send these bills can say that Bush is the reason they haven't been able to do anything. It's an example of good old politics in the US

The Democrats are doing the will of the people. Bush is not. His obstruction of the people's will simply will hurt the GOP in the election as it will be called up time and again. Not only does Bush obstruct the will of the people but also do Republicans in Congress. They will pay dearly in next year's election.

So I am glad to see this continue it merely adds more fuel to the fire of discontent the country has with the GOP and with Bush. So spending billions of dollars a day on a war we had no business starting is sound and proper spending? Where are your priorities?

The Democrat's wasteful spending???? Why do the American people waste their time believing in a President who has the all-time lowest approval rating? Why do the Republicans believe they can and will gain control in '09? GW has ruined this country and the GOP has stood by and watched him do it. Veto? The Dems send him bills to try and keep him from ruining this country even more than he has. Wake up Sir! There's a big change coming!!!

Bush is spending 750 million dollars a DAY in Iraq...what's more wasteful than that? Since when did the President become the dictator of the United States where the Congress can't even present its bills and have him compromise? He's opposing efforts to end the war and save your tax dollars, but more importantly, lives of our soldiers. I don't know anyone who's wasted more money than Bush; Clinton is the only President Republican or Democrat to have a balanced budget in more than 40 years.

The Democrats are doing what they were voted in to do; they're representing the wishes of their constituents. Mr Bush has never represented the wishes of the majority of the country. His veto power is frightening because he wields it according to his wishes and ignores the wishes of the people. The only waist Bush should be stopping is the growing one of his vice-President - oh wait, you meant WASTE? darn, I'm sorry. Must be that terrific Republican education plan that got you through school.

Wasteful spending what freaking planet are you from?
Dems have held pretty good to thier promise. Citizens Against Government Waste, in its annual "Congressional Pig Book," released this week, reports $13.2 billion in pork-barrel spending for the current fiscal year, down from $29 billion in 2006
In other words the Dems have already halfed earmark spending, truth kicks your backside doesn't it cons.
Facts can't be argued you have to be an idiot not to see the Dems are light years ahead of the last congress maybe if the repukes would stop being obstructionists we could see even better results

Actually, NO.

I think this will be only the second significant veto.

The Bush administration is among the most veto free in US history. I think he's in second place, just having trouble finding a source but, I will.

Yes he better stop those nasty dems from spending any $$ on this nations own population , elderly, roads or schools! I want him to continue to send all those billions directly into his pals corporate war and oil bank accounts( Carlyle, Kellog, Lockhead, Smith, Bechtel, Haliburton). How else can the next generation of billionaires finance their lifestyle. Our tax $$ belong in their pockets, let this country crumble and the sick and poor drop dead in the gutter and infrastruce rot. I agree keep the rich rich!! (Haliburton is charging the taxpayers $200 per bath towel in Iraq, now thats a good value for our tax dollars aint it!) Keep up the good work Mr Bush, what do we owe your pals now ?3 trillion? nice...!!!!!!!!!!
