Grade point averages aren't part of the campaign. Bush admits to being a C student but says he has MBA's who work for him, so who is the smarter one? People vote for someone they can relate to; issues fall away and the nicest smile, warmest handshake, prettiest hair - all things that have nothing to do with leadership - somehow garner the votes.

"There is a group of people who feel that '[the President of the United States should] be smarter than I am on just about every issue I can think of.' But there is also a large group of people who don't feel that way. They want the President, in this modern era, to be something they can relate to. Someone who they don't think is intellectually intimidating. Someone who isn't really lost in the big fog of intellectual ideas and the world of words."

Because voters are emotional rather than intelligent. When
Ron Paul schooled Guiliani in the Republican debate the
crowd cheered Guiliani, but Paul had the right answer and
after the debate, he was voted the winner by those who had
the time to reflect on the facts he presented.

I agree. If these Washington weasels were smart, they would listen to their employers - US!
When over 70% of Americans don't want amnesty, why the heck are they voting for it? Why are they trying AGAIN tyo shove it down our throats with the Dream Act?
Why is it everyone elses Senator bad but they continue to re-elect Teddy decade after decade?

Because most of US aren't smarter people! -HOW do you think we ended up with someone like BUSH, & THEN- have the STUPIDITY to RE-ELECT him, after he got us into a War that had no end in sight??! I HATE to say this; but being "Average"- isn't good enough when it comes to Electing someone for President of the United States. And average Americans- elected a good "average" man- when they put Bush into Office... ... And they GOT- what they asked for :(

Because many Americans, though not all, have a problem with their elected officials displaying any sort of intellectual capability. Of if they do, they would rather focus on their "likeability". That's too bad.

I care whether my officials are smart or not, that's why I actually do my research on all the candidates before I vote.. I've come to the conclusion that the only one worth my vote is Ron Paul.. He happens to very intelligent! :)

The problem is with the candidates. We need better qualified candidates to run for office. I care about who I vote for and if someone doesn't step forward soon I'm not going to vote next year.

Because anyone with any sense knows not to run.
Only power blind idiots run for anything these days. I just heard that Virginia STATE Senate candidates are spending $1 Million on their campaigns, for part-time jobs. How smart is that? Where is the outrage?

We...I am not a voter! I'm underage if I voted I would make smarter decisions because adults today did not care that my textbooks are as old as my parents.
