Are you sure it is plugged all the way in, not wiggle around at all? I know that sounds lame, but it does happen, and sometimes it is the smallest thing which turns out to be at fault.

If it is fully plugged in it is possible that the USB port it is to be used with is 1.1 instead of the faster 2.0 format. If you have it plugged into a 2.0 USB Port and it works with 1.1, it won't work properly. I know most hardware is now the 2.0 specification, but you can still accidently purchase an older peice of hardware which still uses the older specification.

While I microphone should just plug in and work, sometimes there are drivers needed and they come on a CD. If a CD came with the microphone, put it into the CD drive, and run the software files. After you do this, you may be told when to plug the microphone in, or you may not. If you get a notification to plug it in, do so, if not, wait until the software is fully installed and then plug it in. See if it works then.

Now, it is also your sound card needs to be configured to allow the sound from the microphone on your system. Open your sound control device, and look for a setting which allows you to enable "sound in". I right click on my icon in the notification area and then select Open Controls to get to my options. Sometimes if I am already in Control Panel, I open it from within that folder. It is easiest to use the icon in the notification area. If you need help for your specific sound card options, click on Help within the sound volume controls. A help window will appear. Look for an entry which says "adjust the voice input volume" or something to that affect. Sometimes these options are not enabled by default and need adjusting after the fact, when you actually add the hardware which uses that type of format.

If these topics to not solve it you may have a faulty hardware device. If so, go and exchange it at the store you purchased it from.

Good luck and have a nice day.

If you can't record from the microphone, make sure it is selected as the recording source. In windows xp: go to the Control Panel and open Sound and Audio Devices.
Under the Volume tab in the Device Volume section click on Advanced.
In the playback control dialog select Options and check Recording (make sure that all of your devices have check marks too - microphone, line-in, etc). Click OK.
The Record Control dialog should be open now. Put a check mark under the Microphone slider and move the slider to change the volume.
I hope this helped.

The drivers for the microphone may not be installed, download them from the manufacturer website and install them. From http://fixit.in
