Sure they are! I'd like to see a non-athlete kick a 40-yard field goal. Kickers tend to be the butt of jokes in the NFL, but when you think about how many games come down to one little field goal, I think the kickers should be the most respected players of all.

Of course they are. Some people like to make fun of them but that is their issue. Just like some are against the kicker because the game can come down to a field goal and people don't like strategy of kicking the field goal instead of going for a touchdown.

If you consider Nascar Drivers atheletes like some do. Then kickers are definatly atheletes since they have to run on and off the field. I would kick a ball for a living though.

yes, i would love to see an average person off the street kick a ball 70+ yards off a tee, multiple times. Any position in football takes talent. even kickers and punters.

all u guys saying fat ppl arent athletes and kickers arent athletes have no idea wat it takes 2 be a kicker or an o lineman. i wanna see yur *** mow over a 350 pound lineman or try 2 stop some1 like reggie white. i wanna see u kick a clutch field goal like jason elam or vinatieri. ur just a bunch of judgemental losers that never played football. if fat ppl arent athletes u wouldnt have things called sacks would ya. which would make the passing game a lot easier.

No they are not.
Some other players are not as well.
It depends what you call an athlete.
To me an athlete is a Carl Lewis type.
For sure the NFL has some athletes in the league but I would not call a fat Warren Sap an athlete or a Rex Grossman an athelte. I would say the mayority are close but only a few really are. One of them by the way is going to Jail.
