I have a couple questions for the Red Sox fans...and for anybody else who's ever been to Fenway.

This is a picture of Pesky's Pole:

I just have a few question about this.

1. Knowing that Fenway's right field wall is very small and that Pesky's Pole has this "netting" on the left side of the Pole (see picture). Is there any way that somebody could rob someone of a home run by jumping on top of the wall and climbing the netting to catch the ball? What I mean is...is it phsically possible to do something like this?

2. And if the statement above is possible, is it legal?

Please answer seriously. I'm not kidding around here...it's pretty important for me to find out. Thank you.

Sorry, I didn't add in enough detail

It would be the outfielder who would catch the ball like this

yes it would take forever to shimmy up the pole and wait for it but its legal. But they have to catch it before it hits pole. I was watching a show about greatest catches(outfield) guys jumping off the wall, one japanese guy climbing a padded wall, stood on the top, then jumped off it into playing territtory to catch the ball

I've never seen anyone stand on top of the wall and jump in major league baseball, so I can only assume it is illegal. I've seen guys kick off the wall to get an extra few inches of height but that's all.

I would guess the same would apply to the netting on the foul pole. An outfielder could jump and catch the ball before it hit the net. If he stuck a shoe in the net, that probably wouldn't work. Besides, the netting might collapse, so that part of the question probably is moot.

The answer would be no. First of all the umpire would make the decision as to whether the ball was fair or foul. Then he would make another decision as to whether the ball cleared the short wall in front of the seats. If a fan does something like you've mentioned he or she would be thrown out of the park. I'm pretty sure the fans sitting in that immediate area wouldn't let some jerk do it in the first place.

There is no way an outfielder would have enough time to do that before the ball came down unless they were playing way out of position

The net is not climbable. It doesnt have big enough holes for shoes to slip in. Plus, I wouldn't doubt that it is totally illegal to jump on the wall and climb a net.

It would be legal but it would take someone the height of Yao Ming to do it though.

Oh wait, a fan?

If it was a fan then no.
