it's been said that kangeroos are being overpopulated for the area and that area's vegetation is almost ruined. They want to cull the kangeroos because they are coming into urban areas, and dog has been reported to be killed by a kangeroo.

Aside from whether it is moral or not, what is so bad about it? In the ecological aspect when there are too many kangeroos or ( certain wildlife).

Culling wildlife is a way of getting around the real problem. Either the kangaroo's natural predator/method of population control has been eliminated or human overpopulation is resulting in kangaroos now being seen as pests when it used to be their land.
Both of these cases are true for deer in the U.S. The wolf was eliminated in most of the country and people took over the deer's natural habitat. Deer population skyrocketed and people invaded their land at the same time. That is why deer hunting is critical. Unfortunately, a reduction in human population and re-introduction of wolves would be the correct answer...but not the convenient answer for people.

Its not that its "so bad". But its certainly not "real good" either. Its a perfectly good response if no one can come up with another one.

The danger is in forgetting that its not the best answer. Becoming used to the idea and beginning to think of protected areas as great big farms for breeding animals for hunting.
