Is Russia still a police state?

Have there not been reforms and changes that have brought freedom and democracy?

Garry Kasparov, the former Chess champ and Russian politician made this comment which was shown in an nterview on 60 Minutes last night.

I'm guessing that when dissident journalists turn up dead, you can reasonably make that leap.

Russia never stop being a police state. It became a little less aggressive in front of the world for a little while, but now is going backwards again

Only someone that lives in Russia can tell you. So every answer here is useless.

Also factor in Kasparovs desire to be president.

I wouldn't call it a police state; rather, I would call it the world's first "crimocracy" or "mafiocracy"--government by organized crime.
