2.3 x 10 with exponent of 2
5 x 10 with exponent of 6
5.1 x 10 with exponent of 7
you move the decimal over until you have a number that is between 1 and 10. then you ____ x 10 (exponent is the number of places you moved to the left.

ok dont panic!! all you have to do is move the decimal so that there is only ONE digit in front of it. if the decimal moves right the exponent of the 10 will be negative and left will be positive. (by the way this symbol ^ means "to the")
so in order to get one digit in front of the decimal you need to move the decimal point to the right one digit:
.230 -> 2.30 x 10 ^ -1 (or if you want to leave out the zero you could write it: 2.3 x 10 ^ -1)
moving the decimal one digit right makes the exponent -1
Now that one was easy because the decimal was visible. for the other two you have to imagine that there is a decimal at the end so...
5,000,000 -> 5000000.
next move the decimal so there is only one digit in front of it:
5.000000
so this means that you had to move it 6 times to the left so your exponent is pos. 6, you dont need to keep any of the zeros so you can write it as:
5 x 10 ^ 6
and finally the third is the same as the second...
51,000,000 -> 51000000.
51000000 -> 5.1000000
5.1000000 -> 5.1 x 10 ^ 7
FINAL ANSWER: 5.1 x 10 ^ 7
i hope this helps!!!

Answer needs to be between 1 and 10 and u count how many times u move the decimial and that is the power u use i cant tell if it is .230 or 230
.230 is 2.3 x 10 ^-1
230 is 2.3 x 10^2
5 x 10^6
5.1 x 10^ 7

scientific notation needs to be something between 1 and 10, times 10 to the power of a number.
.230 = 2.3X 10^-2
5,000,000 = 5X10^6
51,000,000 = 5.1X10^7

You get the answers by knowing how scientific notation works, it's not some mysterious equation. Good luck on you test if you don't even want to bother to learn something this simple.

2.3*10^2
5*10^6
5.1*10^7
you have to put a decimal behind the first digit in the number.
then put *10.
the exponent is decided by counting how many times you moved the decimal to make it be behind the first digit.
