I come from a family of three girls and we all whistled including my mum and dad, often the same tune, sounded like a cage of birds sometimes. I stil whistle a lot, it's great to have an instrument that you don't have to carry around and it's easier to whistle in tune than to sing!
I'm sure it's something to do with 'whistling up the wind' by wise women in the past which is why we're not supposed to do it. I really miss the whistling tradesmen I used to hear as a child, people are not so cheery these days.
My grandfather used to say: 'A whistling woman and a crowing hen is neither good for God nor men'

I am an HFA or "high functioning autism/autistic" and I find whistling is like shards of glass going right into my ears, through my mind and causing me to become highly agitated. I glare at those who whistle and the sad part is that since most autistic people aren't obviously "defective" and are often very attractive, ie; big eyes with a thousand yard stare, I find that a lot of men will whistle in the hopes of making me look at them, usually in the Sainsbury's or somewhere you wouldn't normally have a reason to look in their direction.
I did hear a joke that pops into my head everytime I hear someone whistling:
"Why do men whistle when they go to the toilet?"
The answer: "So they know which end to wipe."

There's an old poem about this:
A whistling maid and a crowing hen
Are neither fit for God nor men!
I've got an awful whistle. Its all off key and I've never been abe to perfect it. I even feel embarrassed whistling my dog!

I never thought about it. I don't let my daughter's whistle in the house because its too loud. I can't carry a tune whistling myself.

We do whistle but our cats hate it. Mine used to put her nose right in the middle of my whistling to stop it.

my sister taught me,I'm not as good as she is...but I can whistle a few tunes...now to answer your question I don't whistle....... in public because I've been taught it's not ladylike
and beside I believe women have a better mean of communciating their thoughts and feelings.

I can't...and i have tried...but i was really bored.
Why do you think that they sould?
Men do things coz they can when they are are good at it. Women......sod it, give us a challenge and we'll give it a go...it's just not the end of the world if we fail.
But i could wolf whistle when i had a brace and now i can't. It sucks....and so do I!
