All clad , is the best alas $500 will get you no where with their products . Advise Costco Kirkland stainless steel set , no Teflon, unless you want to risk Cancer. They have a nice heavy clad bottom and look stylish, and you're not paying for advertisement hype. you also get a good assortment of pieces. You will need a 12 inch skillet (not in the kit) You can also check Emerilware made by All Clad but $500?????

Any well constructed stainless steel with an aluminum or copper core or base will hold up well and be versatile.

I've had the same set of Revereware Stainless Steel, tri base, set for 27 years.

BTW, I do love cooking with cast iron cookware, but I now have a glass top stove and can't use it on the glass. I still use it on our grill and camp stove. Nothing beats a well seasoned cast iron skillet or dutch oven for soups, eggs, etc.

I personally prefer stainless steel. Cast iron is good for skillets too. I don't like cookware with the non-stick surfaces on them: They're nice for a while, but then start pitting and peeling off.

Take a look at what the Cook's Club and the Pampered Chef have to offer: I have several pieces from them, and have yet to be disappointed.

Well there are quite a few out there. My Mom's dream cookware set is Lagostina (not sure about prices, they're different everywhere) and for me I use the Visions glass pots. They're really good and not too expensive. They can go in the fridge (after cooling down, of course) and even go in the oven.

As for pans, I prefer metal flatpans or iron skillets because I don't really trust non-stick teflon as much as I used to.

I'd suggest you shop around and see what's out there. I also find that going to warehouses usually have cheaper stuff, you'd have to compare which is best quality to get a bang for your buck.

Good luck...Hope you find what you're looking for!

I received Caphalon One anodized cookware for my wedding. I love them! You cannot put this cookware in the dishwasher due to them being anodized, but they are so easy to clean. I even enjoy the fact that I am no longer wasting space in my dishwasher. NOTHING, sticks to them....they heat even and fast....they have metal handles so you can transfer them to the oven. I received the whole set purchased from Bed Bath and Beyond from one person for my wedding gift. Check them out. They look sexy too. Enjoy.

A good set of Calphalon is great if you want non-stick. Mine was about $300.00. I like that the lids are glass, too.

My son just spent almost $600 for a set of stainless steel by All-Clad, but it has no non-stick coating.

I got my copper bottomed stainless steel Revereware for a wedding shower gift - in 1976. It is still in perfect condition. I also have some of my mom's pans from the 40's.

All clad. forget the nonstick. get something with heavy bottoms that conduct heat evenly. If you are spending $500 I would go with the copper All-clad.
