Hello everyone, Im kind of confused. Today I am 17 weeks pregnant, my only ultrasound was at 8 weeks, it showed one baby, since then all I have had is the sound of my babys heartbeat, the one my doc uses is a doppler but it doesnt show how fast the heart rate is, looks older. I bought my own 2007 model, expensive, I used it today and on my left side it showed 140bpm, normal, then i picked up something on my right side like 120something then i moved the probe to the middle of my stomach and got 229 and higher could i have picked up two heart rates, twins? my doc only listens to my baby for about 20 seconds, or is something wrong with my child?

That is why you need to leave the monitoring to your doctor. These home machines just stress people out. Most likely you picked up your own heart rate in addition to your baby's.

You also may have been overlaid with the placenta and the baby's heartrate - they have slightly different tones and if the placenta and/or the cord was right above the baby's heart you may have gotten both rates. If it happens again listen real carefully - you may be able to pick up a slight difference between the two. I think the cord almost sounds like it has an echo to it.

229 is not correct, your baby would be in serious trouble if it was that. I have a doppler at home too and dont try to get the rate, I just listen to the heartbeat and that's it. It might be that you had it in a spot where it picked both the babies heartbeat up, and yours which gave it a double heartbeat.

Gosh not sure maybe you just made a error in use? Maybe its the sound of the cord? My midwife whn I was pregant with my last child said that there was a difference in the cord sound and the heart sound. I wouldnt worry about it too much.
