and i extremely like him. Hes so nice sweet,funny, etc. Recently, we have been talking more and have been becoming friends. Do you think i should risk the friendship and ask him out Or play it cool and wait for him to ask me?

This works one way.
If you are the girl and indicate you would like to be more then friends and he does not fancy you... he gets an ego boost but still wants to be friends, just maybe not pull in front of you for a while.
If its the guy who is interested in the girl as more then friends the girl goes loopy, stops wanting to be friends and accuses the guy of being some kind of sick perve who she never wants to speak to again
Pity guys would love to date a best mate if they fancied her.
AND LOVE IT WHEN THE GIRL THEY LIKES ASKS THEM OUT OR ENGINEERS SITUATIONS WHERE HE GETS TO SEE HER WITH LESS CLOTHING OR GET TOUCHY FEELY AND KISSY.
As guys are often mega shy, clueless about girls, have no idea what to do and terrified of loosing their best mate and have her thinking you are some sort of sex offender ot other tripe

k definitely do not listen to that purple whatever person. if you ask him out online, or through a friend, he'll definately say no because he'll think you're too chicken to do it in person or yourself. boys LOVE confident girls. girls who keep their heads high, and make eye contact. NOT COCKY GIRLS THOUGH! there's a big difference. just get to know him a little more, and see where things go. tell him you want to hang out this weekend and give him your number and go to a movie. flirt with him. then if by the end of the night, let him know how you feel. i really hope this helped you!
