32 Hours is considered full-time in Texas. However, I think it's a federal law, so it should be 32 where you're at as well. I'm an employer so I know this is correct.

From what I understand, there is not a technical legal amount of hours to be considered full time. However, I will say that in most situations, as I'm sure you know, it is considered to be 40 hours, which I too feel is a bit disingenuous because of the amount of entrepreneurs and per say, my father owns a carpet cleaning business. His day may be from 8am to 7pm if he has the appointments to fill that much time, but it may also just be a large church sanctuary where he can show at 10am and he may be done by 3pm. Either way, it's a full day and it would be wrong, due to unforeseen issues that may arise, to schedule more appointments and have to cancel them, inconveniencing the consumer, when he has enough business by doing it this way. Would I consider him full time? Yes. Does it mean he works 40 hours a week? No! He may only work 30, but he may also work 70. It's sad but, I will look further into Texas law and respond again, shortly.

I don't think there is a legal definition of what is full time. I think generally it is practiced that if you are full time you will get hours up to and possibly including 40.
But don't think that it is illegal to be hired full time and not get 40 hours.

Different companies have different definitions of the term full time, so you'll want to check with the people you work for, but the typical definition of full time is 40 hours.

Back in 2003 or 2004, when I was looking into getting added to my former company's insurance (I was the only hourly employee, with three salaried and three independent contractors), I was told that whatever the company defined as the minimum hours for full time was okay with them, as long as it was the same across the board for all hourly employees. We decided on 32.

The Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA) does not define full-time employment or part-time employment. This is a matter generally to be determined by the employer. Whether an employee is considered full-time or part-time does not change the application of the FLSA.
