I gather you are from China. It can be confusing when your government tries to make up history and then enforce it on to a population. When people abuse power and allow history to be manipulated to push a political agenda we often end up with such things as racism and religous wars. The USA never invaded Vietnam ( Nixon said it was a police action - he wouldn't lie). The Berlin wall was knocked down by angry fans of David Hasslehoff. The civil war is still being fought - it's not all that civil if you're black. Did you know Pearl Harbour was not a surprise attack??? Prior to Pearl Harbour being attacked in 1941, Japanese diplomats sought a peace treaty from the USA, but the USA wanted to have a war in the pacific and refused to give up control of the pacific countries it was already enslaving ( like the Phillipines). Not much has changed...Why are Americans so hopeless at Diplomocy yet so good at Country and Western music? WIllie Nelson for President!

No,no,no. The East Vietnamese kept raiding West Berlin by going under the Wall in tunnels. Tunnel rats, they were called. And that is what triggered off the civil war. Pearl Harbor was only a base of operations in 1983; we could tunnel down from there and go up under the Wall from our side and fight back. But the media was hostile because they weren't getting any great visuals and American Jewish groups were afraid this whole thing would substract from U.S. and British support for a reconstituted and independent Brooklyn, without prejudice to the indiginous population. You need to read more if you like history.

I think a lot of the 'sickening cliches' have to do with the era in which the films take place; during the first and second World Wars, the USA had a very strong, almost unanimous feeling of patriotism and support for their soldiers, pitching in where they could. When we look back on the 1940's, it is the heroic stories of brotherhood and perseverance we generally hear about. While the script for Peal Harbor may have been cliche and predictable, great movies like Saving Private Ryan carry a similar patriotic undertone to the story. If you look at films like Platoon, or Born of the Fourth of July, for instance, the tone of the story is much different, when Americans were beginning to understand the gruesome side of war and protested it. Movies set in modern times about the current war in Iraq seem contain a similar message.

You must be the one who's teaching my daughter's history class. Either that or you're a Hollywood producer.
