There are those who say "no." They are incorrect.

Believe me, there are many times that just because a woman/girl has her period DOES NOT MEAN SHE IS NOT PREGNANT!!

While it IS unlikely they can be pregnant, there have been so many cases of women actually being pregnant, even though they've had their periods.

The best thing to do is to get tested for it. The home preg. kits are pretty effective these days - no matter which brand you buy. The absolute method is to get your blood drawn. They can also check to see if you ARE pregnant...just how far along are you.

Best wishes to you.

YES, you can.

Menstruation usually stops when a woman is pregnant. However, in some cases, a woman might have a period with less blood or that lasts fewer days than usual and still be pregnant. Your confusion is understandable because these signs can lead women to believe they are not pregnant. However, various kinds of bleeding can occur in early pregnancy. Women can get some spotting in their first trimester:

* when the fertilized egg implants in the uterus;
* if the pregnancy is abnormal in any way [i.e., ectopic pregnancy (implantation outside of the uterus, such as in a fallopian tube), a threatening miscarriage]; or,
* from bleeding as part of their menstrual cycle (this is extremely rare).

YES! normally it only happens for the first month but it can also be when the egg's implanting itself in the uterus. OR she may just be having a lighter start to her period. Mine are always light then heavy. Each women is unique and we do change. Get her to take a test to be sure, and if its postive she needs to got to the doc. But no protection is 100% safe, ever.

Yes you can have a light period at the beginning of pregnancy. Some pregnant women also spot a little bit. Itf this happens then see a doctor right away.

And yes, you can also get pregnant while you are on your period. While these things are not common they do happen.

Women are all unique and different.

It is common for some women to have a period the first month they are pregnant, which is significantly lighter than their normal period. This is genetic.

There is also implantation bleeding, which is lighter both in flow and color than a normal period. I found the following links to be very informative

Yes, you can. No birth control is 100% safe. Generally, if you get your period after becoming pregnant it only happens on the first cycle.
It is also possible to have a lighter cycle sometimes when you are not pregnant.

Yes it is possible to have a period while you are pregnant, especially in the early stages. Why do you think there are so many women who have no idea that they are pregnant for months?

Some people who become pregnant mistake the implantation bleeding for a period. This is when the egg implants itself into the uterine wall. It sometimes causes bleeding. But to answer the general question. No you do not have a period while pregnant.
