So I'm in 8th grade. My friend Jamie was in history class today and her book was in her way or something like that so she said, "Jesus Christ! Get out of my way!" or something like that. The teacher gave her an after school detention for it! I mean, seriously, the teacher said it "offended" her. She can't do that, can she?! It's UNCONSTITUTIONAL! Isn't it...?

You're in eighth grade, you have no rights.

I hoped the lesson learned was you must watch what you say.

Where on Earth do you think you would get away with talking in such a manner.

It will definitely benefit you to know what is not acceptable language.

You find this class mate acceptable. I assume you would use such language. The teacher relieved you of having to confront this classmate. Plus taught you so you wont be in detention for not knowing right from wrong.

Maybe you do not care about how something makes others feel uncomfortable. If somethings makes someone feel threaten or goes against their belief then it should be addressed. If someone in school was wearing different clothing and was picked on due to their belief would you feel the same way. Your in 8th. grade maybe someone in your life should have taken you to church, any just something. It is sad to see young people say what you said.

Yes. It's unconstitutional. But unfortunately, in schools, you don't have all constitutional powers. Your school basically tells you what to do. So you can't bear arms or turn down a drug test (which is an illegal search). And free speech is not free. Jesus Christ was into forgiveness. Your teacher is an idiot.

I know you are only in 8th grade, but this is not really what is meant by "separation of church and state".

No, because she's using an offensive word. Just because he happens to be a religious word, it can still be "naughty." It doesn't mean that your teacher is "endorsing" any particular religion.

In contrast to the usual verbal filth that spills from the mouths of today's youth, your friend sounds like an angel.
