It depends on the person, some people are miserable no matter what, their marital status won't change it. Other folks are happy no matter what. I know some people who are much happier single, they would be miserable in a relationship, since they are very introverted and private (I know not all introverted people are single, lol).
Myself, I'm very extroverted, and really need to have a roommate or partner to live with. I need quiet time, but I get withdrawal if I don't have my "people" time.

My sister is single and she never wants to get married ! I have always thought of her as a mean cat, actually a b****, who is very independant and never really talked to me for more than 5 minutes. You could never control her not that you should ever control a human being but you know what I mean.
I on the other hand am sweet, loving, wise, etc, etc Christian and I have always wanted to get married and have a child. Now I am married to the man of my dreams. I am much happier now than when I was single. It takes all kinds.

That all depends on your personality..some women believe that they need a man in their lives to become whole...
Having been both married and now single I prefer single as I love my freedom , being married was great too, but I actually grew out of it, which may sound strange, but when you think about it not really, cos you are changing all the time.

Still a newlywed, I can recall my years of singledom quite readily, and feel I might be able to answer...at least for myself.
Being single was alot easier in many ways. No one to answer to or have to keep in the loop. Everything I decided was for myself, and I didn't have to stop and think of another's feelings or preferences.
Given the choice, however, I would not trade in my married life for single days again. There are benefits to both, but the benefits and happiness of marriage far outweigh those of my single days...

I think that it may not be a matter of being happier or less happy, just different kinds of happiness. I think you experience different types of happiness, joy, and sorrow depending on your stage in life. The kind of happiness you experience as a child is quite intense but then again the kind of happiness you experience as a parents is also intense, just different.
Being single, in a relationship, or permentantly partnered/married are all states of being that offer their own challenges, joys, and rewards.

Polls have proven it for the last two or three decades, for one thing. For another, single women are generally more financially and emotionally independent. They're also more likely to have regular sex and more likely to feel proud of their accomplishments. Love is all well and good (unless you're me), but being able to make it on one's own and not have to answer to anyone is better.

Mortgage payments and babies and retirement planning and sickness and family vacations...
But I disagree with your question. I think married women are happier than single women. -You are never alone, someone's always got your back, you share responsibilites, you share pain etc.

Because it was their choice to be single. Women enjoy having choices these days. There are some people who have absolutely no desire to marry, and it is their choice to make.
