154-m=84! please explain your answer!

I know to subtratc 154 from both sides but then you have to do 84-154. that's
-70, right

OK - you should be able to do this- here you go

154-m =84 (get m by itself- to do this subtract 154 from both sides)

154-m -154 = 84-154
-m = -70
m=70

Now check it

154 -70 =84 ??
84 =84 YES!

154 - m = 84

means that
154 = 84 + m

which also means that
154 - 84 = m

so
70 = m

You can move terms from one side of the = sign to the other if you change their sign. This process is called transposition, but does not seem to be taught anymore, even though it is the simplest way to solve many problems.

subract 154 from both sides to get m by its self. it will be negative. -m= -70
Then you would multiply both side by -1 to make postitive then you have your answer.
-m(-1)=-70(-1)
m=70

add m to each side

subtract each side by 84

m=70
