America (the U.S.A.) became the world leader because of its 'free' natural resources. Possibly the next "leader" (most powerful country) will be one with a large solar collection capability and short shorelines. Say, China or India, because we (Americans) are throwing our resources away at a rapid rate, and in about 50 years will be a 'poor' country, relative to the ones making more use of whatever 'free' resource is then in most demand (probably energy).

>Which country will be the next America?
Hopefully none of them. I'd prefer to see other countries develop quickly and efficiently without going through the economic and political morass of the United States. Sure we can learn from our mistakes?
>First off, do you think the United States will always be the most powerful country? If not, which country will take over?
China is probably the only country that would become more powerful than the United States in the near future. In the long run, though, people will probably eventually unite into a single society without the need for countries, and after that into a single entity.

Defintely not - once complacency and lack of innovation set in, it's pretty much all over. I actually think the USA hasn't really been the most powerful country for that long when you look at the UK (From Elizabeth I to WWI - Brittannia rules the waves anyone?) and the further back Italy (Roman Empire - need I say more). If you were to look at the actual solvency of the States (huge, unfathomable trade deficit, laughable strength of currency) I'd argue that it won't be long before India or China eclipse them as the worlds next big superpower.

As much as I would like us to remain the most powerful country, history has proven that power always changes hands.
My thought is that it's going to be a block of allied countries that combined will have more power.
We will find out in OUR lifetimes.

In case you haven't heard, we don't call the shots anymore, and haven't for some time. I'd put my chips on the People's Reublic of China, to answer your question.
