Actual driving time would be around 42 hours for this 2,850 mile trip.

1.5 to 2 hours depending on where in L.A. you are driving from and how fast you drive. Great spots in San Diego worth visiting are the Gaslamp District in Downtown San Diego. Lots of great restaurants, bars, clubs, etc. Old Town is also great. It's the birthplace of California with many buildings from the 1800's still intact. Sea World in Mission Bay is also cool. Check out Cabrillo National Monument at the tip of Point Loma also. A very historic lighthouse and some pristine tidepools are there. If you're into the college age clubs, you'll want to check out Garnet Avenue in Pacific Beach. Tons of college students hang out there on weekends at a variety of clubs and restaurants geared for that crowd. Also check out Seaport Village at the waterfront in Downtown. You can get a boat ride around the harbor there and see some historic boats and sights.

The best deal: Fly southwest to Albany, NY or Manchester, NH, and take the bus to Montreal( 4 hr), total cost $180

Fly direct flight from LAX to Montreal , total cost $ 450.

Driving cost for gas only $330.

You are looking at a 3-4 day trip by car, so, unless the trip IS the destination, fly!
