it depends on how many gallons the tank is, but i had a 6 foot long 60 gallon tank and i could only keep 2 false map turtles (water turtles) healthy and happy in it. i got a 3rd turtle and the tank became dirty too fast, and i had to get rid of the 3rd turtle eventually.

Go by gallons. The rule is 10 gallons of water per inch of turtle shell length.

If your tank is a 50 gallon, then it will have about 30-40 gallons of water, so can handle a 3-4" turtle- or one medium-small turtle.
