(without a helmet)
1) Impact in intersection= head smashed like cantaloupe
2) Head smashed like cantaloupe= only brain dead
3) Only brain dead = life insurance policy never pays out
Helmets are not a guarantee of survival, but only increase your chances to withstand a cranial impact. We bikers still have to worry about loss of limbs, blood loss and other massive trauma that may kill instantly or not. It's a matter of choice in some states, it's the law in others. I understand that each day I ride, may be my last, no matter how hard I try to protect myself. I wear a helmet because it's the law here in Calif. and for me, it's worth the effort to care for my head. By a cheap helmet then that's how much your head is worth. Don't wear one....then I guess you don't value your head very much. I'd guess that the most vocal about a helmet law and abolishing it would be those who have had run-in's with the law, or can't stand any type of government intervention or having any body tell them what to do. Perhaps the only protection they need is the confidence in their own riding ability. Oh and one of those little brass jingle bells that puts a magical shell of protection 'round the bike just before they go rubber side up.

First of all, it's not a helmet unless it's FULL FACE. When 47% of all impacts are to the face/chin area, a half helmet is no better than a baseball cap. Here's three reasons for ya:
1. Your family
2. Your friends
3. Your LIFE!
That doesn't seem like enough?
4. If you DON'T die, you'll be drooling on yourself for the rest of your life.
5. Gravel
6. Bugs
7. Rain
8. Cold (REAL bikers ride in almost any weather, right?)
But if that's not enough to convince you, I hope you have your Organ Donor card signed.

I hit the black top at 85 MPH the helmet i was wearing, was an open face helmet when i hit the ground. 110 feet later it was broken in half 20 feet from the bike. I don't need 2 more reasons! I would not be here typing if i didnt have it on.

I'll give you 6 reasons:
1) permenent drool marks down your chin
2) repeated seizures
3) brain death
4) interns with a sense of humor who use people who did not wear a helmet as bowling pins or book ends
5) we have enough vegetables all ready
6)DEATH
Seriously, there are only two kinds of riders in the end : those who have been knocked down, and those who are going to be knocked down. Use someone like Gary Busey for a prime example, he was outspoken against wearing helmets. Then he crashed, almost died, suffered brain damage, and if you have seen or heard him lately, you can see that he is never going to be the same. I have ridden motorcycles for 41 years. I've been knocked down 3 times. If I had not been wearing a helmet, I would be dead. My best reasons for wearing a helmet? easy, my wife, my 3 kids, my 4 grand kids and I enjoy life.

1. You may die from a very bad fall
2. You may end like Christopher Reeves, the actor that fell from his horse, hit his head, broke his neck and died on a wheelchair much years later trying for the whole life to help other quadriplegic to move again. He never rose from his chair, currently if you broke your neck while riding without helmet, you would not too.
3. You may end a vegetable, and die in a coma

#3 Loss of the ability to work.
#2 Loss of the ability to think.
#1 Loss of life itself.
My nephew just wrecked his motorcycle 1 month ago and was airlifted to the hospital. He was in a coma for 3 days. Broken ribs, nearly a hundred staples, scrapes and cuts, and extreme bruising were not the worst effects. He has lost his job. He lost his bike. And worst of all he is suffering from blackouts. This keeps him from doing pretty much anything. I notice a small change in his mental faculties. His father (my brother) says that he has changed a lot mentally.
He t-boned a car that pulled out in front of him while he was doing 65 Mph. He was wearing one of those peanut helmets. The kind that only cover the very top of your head. I wish I could have stopped him. My brother is traumatized thinking it was his fault. For God's sake wear an appropriate helmet!

1. You never know when someone will run into you.
2. You could hit a rock or ditch or something and fall off.
3. It's a lot cheaper to buy a helmet than pay hospital bills for damages done that could have been prevented.

Wow, so many here that have never answered a motorcycle question before! And a few who have.
It keeps my head warm in the winter.
It keeps my head dry in the rain.
Wait a while, I'm sure I can think of another.
