My friends and I want to come up with a nickname for him (I know, we're lame and bored!!), and I can't think of a good one. We want to base it off of the fact that he has so many "life lessons" for us, but we can't think of one!! We've come up with lame stuff like "Yoda" or "Confucius" and so forth, but nothing really fun. Isn't there some kind of nickname you use when referring to a wise teacher that's kind of commonly used? I feel like it has something to do with martial arts... or it's in a different language or something... or it's from a movie... does anybody know what I'm talking about? Even if you don't and you can think of a good nickname, leave it, please!!

And yes, I know, I have waaaay too much time on my hands!! :)

You could call him "Mr. Miagi". It's from the movie The Karate Kid where Miagi taught (what's his name) karate by making him wax old cars, balance on wooden poles in the sand, and catch flies in mid air with chopsticks. Of course, he passed on many life lessons as well with these odd teaching methods. Cheesy 80's movie, but the name kind of works!

Why not call him…Sifu pronounced (see fu)?

This is Master to the Shaolin adherent. A genuine Sifu has the knowledge of the ages passed down from Master to Master.

It is respectful and will demonstrate your effort to find a respectful and complimentary title.

If you've ever seen a movie called The Mystery Men, this is sage like superhero they go to called The Sphinx who spouts out words of advice. If you haven't seen that yet watch it then you'll see what I mean.
