Since BCP affect different women in different ways, it is not possible to say if one will "give" you cancer or not. Talk with your OB/GYN about your concerns. They may know which pills are less likely to cause breast cancer. Also, reduce or eliminate any bad habits linked to cancer like smoking or drinking and eat more green veggies. If you are terrified of taking pills and having all the side effects and are not looking to have more kids in the future, perhaps you need to look into getting your tubes tied.

Unfortunately all combined pills are associated with an increased risk of breast cancer (not sure about progesterone only). The good news is that last i heard there's no synergy between a family history of breast cancer and having taken the pill - so if i'm right you probably haven't just made your risk super-high by taking it, and the risk is mostly in younger women who've used it for a *long time*.

Unforunately, if you cross off hormone based therapy, you're not going to get an acne or weight improvement packaged with your medication. There are plenty of other things that can help with all four problems though - so talk to a GP you like

Your options are limited if you want an effective way while staying away from the pill. The patches are the same medicine as the pills. The shot (depo provera) has the unwanted side effect of causing osteoporosis (thinning of your bones) as well as probably making your acne worse. Sterilization (getting your tubes tied) is an option if you DEFINITELY don't want any more kids. Condoms, IUD, cervical cap, female condom, contraceptive sponge are the other methods available. I think you'll have to choose a non-hormone way of birth control while using something else for your skin (? antibiotic cream for your face).

honestly that's an issue to discuss with your ob/gyn doc. most birth control will have side effects. if breast cancer runs in your family than that's an entire different subject all together what type of b.c. you use will not change the fact that you are at risk of getting breast cancer simply because of your family history. Your doctor will go over all your options ask about the patch it supposedly stays on even when in the shower/swimming. and I think you just change it out every wk. so no pills to worry about taking on a daily basis. good luck!

Personally, I'm a huge supporter of the NuvaRing!
The weight gain thing is pretty well normal to all forms of birth control but of course affects each person differently. I didn't experience any weight gain or mood swings and it helped my complexion. The best part is that you don't have to remember it every day. Put it in for 3 weeks, take it out for one and repeat. I love it!!!
I've done A LOT of trial and error with birth control and this is by far the best of the lot.

This is something you should really speak to you GYN about. They will take into consideration that fact that you have a family history of breast cancer as well. I don't know about the weight gain, the Depo shot made me gain weight, and my hair fall out. I think everyone is different though, and you GYN can always start you on something, see if you like it, and if you don't then you can try something else. Good Luck!

Many of the side effects of birth control you listed are side effects of all birth control. You're better off staying ON the pill AND using a condom.

However, be sure to get mammograms regularly and, as someone else mentioned, be sure to talk to you doctor.

Good luck.

Well, the simplest solution if you don't want anymore children is perhaps to get your tubes tied... However, it is surgery and you will have to have someone help you during the recovery process... That's the most permanent way to stop having any more unwanted children... Or finding a partner that has had a vasectomy.... good luck

Since you're afraid of birth control pills with good reasons of course!.... I'd advise having a tubiligation and if you have a husband, ask him if instead he could get fixed. I think it would be best if he can get fixed instead of you having to get it done.
