Stop using IE. Fact is, nearly all Internet virus's, exploits, adware, malware, etc are written to take advantage of Bill Gates' browser and OS holes.

It sounds like the website you were on either sent you looping pop-ups... in which the only way out of it is to completely shut down your web browser > reboot > and re-open then browser.

If this problem is continuing to happen after rebooting.. then you need to scan your system for malware.

Hopefully you are using antivirus / firewall from a reliable vendor like mcafee and it is properly configured and automatically updating. same goes for windows.. hopefully you are updating thru the windows update site for the latest security patches.

You can run a web based scan from here is you suspect your a/v is disabled or not working properly... http://housecall65.trendmicro.com/

If you are infected with spyware your a/v should stop it but you can also get spybot and run the immunization (don't download extra crap if you don't need to).
It's here if you need it:
www.safer-networking.org/en/index.html

Check your internet settings to make sure your homepage hasn't been redirected and delete your cache
Tools > Internet Options > Browsing History > delete temporary files, history, cookies and change homepage to something safe like www.google.com

good luck

Your computer is infected with Spyware (not a virus). Download, install, update (for the latest definitions), and do a full system scan with:
1) Lavasoft's Ad-Aware
http://www.download.com/Ad-Aware-2007-Free/3000-8022_4-10045910.html?part=dl-ad-aware&subj=dl&tag=top5

2) Spybot Search & Destroy

"Fix" anything that it finds.

Download, install, update and run SpywareBlaster to immunize your system to prevent future infestations of the known spyware programs.

Seems like an Internet Explorer bug, you should use a nother browser Opera or Firefox.

Also try running an antivirus check as well as an antispam one. Clearing your browser's cache might also help.
