Change is not necessarily advancement. The concept of evolution as a track toward the better future with ever more advanced capabilities is an romantic invention.
Just because we have a complex language, thanks to the descent of our hiyoid bone, and developed bigger brains for the highly successful complex language does not mean more than an opportunity to not get eaten by tigers and bears so much.
Morally, there is little sight of species-wide advancement. Most animals only kill for territory and breeding rights. Oh, wait!. That's what human wars are mostly about. Wait! We also kill because our brains don't all carry the same abstractions. Wait! We also kill for ambition, greed, anger, stupidity, remembered insults and more. Where is the advancement? It must be in the few people who have put those permissions to kill aside, yet they are a small minority in the power structure of the ruling cave bears of politiconomics.

More advanced in what way? The most successful creatures on this planet are the single celled organisms, not humans. Single celled organisms could wipe us out. Many species are far better adapted to their environment than we are. We can control our environment to a certain extent but we are still vulnerable. We have better technology than other species so we are more technologically advanced but that is about all.
