I am doing a project for my Family Studies class about this topic. If you don't mind could you please include a first name and where you're from<<(Maybe you can tell me if these types of relationships are common in your town)

If you've been in an interracial relationship, can you explain the differences between dating outside your race and dating inside? Maybe explain the positives and the negatives?

I am not against interracial relationships. Why would I be ?
I live in Paris (France). There are many mixed race relationships in this city. It's inevitable as it's a very multicultural city.

I'm usually only physically attracted to people of my own race (white European). I don't know why that is ... (?)
I have had just one relationship outside of my race (with a South American man of European / American Indian ancestry). It didn't change very much at all. He was himself and I was myself !

@mable3691214 : you sound like a sweety ;-)

Hi, my name is Butch and I have had an interracial relationship for the past 3-4 years. It was a very good relationship while it lasted, and the only reason we still aren't involved is that she lives in another state now. We are just too far apart to be able to maintain the relationship. Dating outside your race really isn't about the race thing for me. I fell in love with her as a person (in fact, I will always love her). We didn't have any real problems with people making rude comments or stuff like that. Our families got along and there were no issues there. I live in southern California, and maybe people here are more tolerant, but we also traveled around quite a bit and had no negative reactions (at least to our faces). We are both in our fourties and have similar interests.
She is black and I am white. Since we have split up, we maintain contact by phone every once in a while. I have moved on and now about to get married to a beautiful girl.

First of all, race and ethnicity are two different things and to be honest I find interracial relationships as an evolution of human culture and behavior. I'm not saying that I support it, yet I'm aware that I can't prevent it. What I can do is influence the ones around me of what is right and wrong before they get swept by the tide.

Personally I don't have any problem with interracial relationships. I know most of the people here don't have a problem with it either. The fact of the matter is, if two people are good for each other, and they treat each other well, then the people around them are more likely to accept them as a couple. The problem with interracial relationships is that when an issue comes up, or the couple has problems, people automatically start blaming one race or the other, and use stereotypes and biggotry to make things worse.
If two people are into each other then I have no problem with it.

My name is Regina, and I am in an interracial relationship I am from Cleveland Heights, its a suburb of Cleveland,Ohio. Yes, interracial relationships are very high in this area, really all over Cleveland. I'm not saying that there isn't any opposition but there are a lot. (and not just black and white, all types of interracial couples) I have grew up with a lot of black people, so I don't really recognize the difference between the cultures, I have only dated black guys, not out of preference but those are the people I had most in common with. Also those are the only men who approached me anyway. I can say that some negatives to dating someone of another race is that you need to make sure that person is with you because they like you, not because they always wanted to date a Puerto Rican or they think dating a white girl is a social status thing. OR dating a black guy makes you dangerous or a white guy means you're preppy. You need to make sure that person is with you because of you not because of what your skin color is or status of your race.
The postives to dating people of another race is that people like Martin Luther King Jr. and El-Hajj Malik El-Shabazz, (Malcolm X) dreams have been realized and people are living in peace. And yes we make pretty babies too!

Please make up a name and town for me! Maybe you can find the statistics on divorce rates of interracial marriages. Marriage is difficult enough and I have found the ones that last are when the two people are very similar.

The children don't seem very happy about it.

I have never been in an interracial relationship. They are not common in my town but in the next town over that has a lot of chicken plants and mexicans I see alot of mexican men with white women.

Growing up in a small town, I was not exposed to many people of color. Moving to a suburban area of Phila., PA, my first real exposure to interracial couples was a bit of a surprise. I have grown to be a little more tollerant in recent years living here in the south. My concern has always been for any offspring of the relationship. Even Mariah Carey once said that growing up, she didn't feel like she really belonged to either black or white. JIM, Florida.

They make beautiful babies.

I don't see much of it and I have never dated outside of my race, not because I am against it, because I haven't found someone I am attracted to who is not of my race.

Although there was this one Latin American man who I danced with once who I just wanted to tear his clothes to shreds... that was a fun night.
